In the Coventry Standard of 26th January 1838 this pub was reported as To Let. Between 1850 and 1861 this was the CROWN, 13 Cook Street. Until 1930 this was a home brew pub. The first formal notice of objection to this pub's license renewal was made in February 1936 as part of Coventry's general "slum clearance" scheme. The Lamp Tavern was described as being "clean and well conducted, though the living accommodation was poor. The customers were chiefly of the working class". The objection was not contested and compensation for closure of £4,286 was accepted in November that same year. Old Tower Inn Cook St
